LAKE WORTH, Fla. - The Miami University golf team finished in 12th place at the FAU Slomin Autism Championship on Sunday. The Red and White finished the third day with a one-over par round of 285 to jump over Georgetown in the final standings. Each RedHawk in the lineup posted their best round on the last day of competition, with sophomore Patrick Flavin earning his second individual title of the season.
Flavin, who had been in the running for the lead all weekend, finished in a three-way tie for first place with Brandon Thornberry (Ole Miss) and Manuel Elvira (UCF). The sophomore recorded a two-under round of 69 to finish eight-under on the tournament.
"Patrick really played well this week," head coach Zac Zedrick said. "It got difficult down the stretch and he dug in."
Junior Greg Conrad had the best day of any Miami player, firing a three-under round of 68 to end tied for 26th place. Senior Jack Sparling finished tied for 73rd after shooting a three-over round of 74. Redshirt freshman Brian Ohr also ended with a 74 and finished tied for 77th place. Senior Bud Radis turned in a six-over round of 77 and finished in 89th place.
Senior Daniel Schwarz, competing unattached, finished his solid week with a four-over round of 75 to end tied for 50th place. Senior Bailey Truesdell also played as an individual, posting a 17-over round of 88 on the last day to finish in a tie for 97th place.
While the last day of action was an improvement, Zedrick maintains that the team has improvements to make.
"The overall performance definitely wasn't what we wanted," said Zedrick. "But there were also improvements made throughout the week - especially today. "There's just a lot we need to work on and improve if April is going to be the type of month we want to have."
The RedHawks return to competition when they head to the Hoosier Collegiate on April 9.
