RedHawks Start Strong at Black and Gold Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Miami RedHawks track and field team kicked off outdoor track and field action at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational on Friday.
The Red and White’s effort was highlighted by Matt Owens, who claimed the pole vault by clearing 16-0-.75. Joining Owens in the victory circle was Arionna Darling, who won the shot put with a mark of 50-4 to lead the Mid-American Conference rankings.
Other performances in the shot put circle included Katie Walter throwing 44-3.5 for fifth place and Ashley Frahm marking of 38-9.75 for 18th. Women’s hammer saw Martha Szekely take second, posting a mark of 171-11.75. Fellow RedHawks Walter and Frahm took fifth and sixth by tossing 165-7.75 and 165-2.25, respectively. On the men’s side, Zubin Coleman marked 159-5 to finish sixth. Andrew Vollet finished eighth in the men’s shot put marking 51-9.75.
In the women’s 200m, Alexus Jimson-Miller led the ‘Hawks by posting a time of 25.32 for 14th place. Fellow RedHawks Briah Owens and Kalliopi Kountouri posted times of 25.65 and 26.11 for 21st and 34th, respectively.
In men’s 200m action, Jake Owens led the way finishing in 22.08 for 11th place. Adam Bodrick was 12th in 22.10. Kenny Glenn and Avery Taylor rounded out the RedHawk effort finishing in 22.42 and 23.09 respectively for 16th and 24th.
In the men’s 1500m Jordan Knapp was the lone RedHawk finishing 16th in 4:01.06.
