MINNEAPOLIS - Miami hockey senior forward Sean Kuraly (Dublin, Ohio/Indiana (USHL)) made a bit of program history at the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Awards Ceremony on Thursday night.
Kuraly was named the NCHC's Defensive Forward of the Year, becoming the first RedHawk to win an individual award from the conference in its three-year history. He beat out St. Cloud State's Kalle Kossila and Denver's Quentin Shore for the honor.
The Dublin, Ohio native, who was also an All-NCHC Honorable Mention pick, notched 23 points on six goals and a team-high 17 assists while playing in all 36 games. After a slow start, Kuraly was dynamite in the second half, posting a team-leading 17 points and a +10 rating over the final 20 games of the season.
An ace in the faceoff circle, Kuraly's 429 faceoff wins and 56.3 percentage in the dots both ranked second in the NCHC. He was also an integral part on the Red and White penalty kill unit, which finishes the year second in the country with a 90.9 kill rate.
Kuraly played 154 games for Miami and tallied 93 points on 43 goals and 50 assists. He also finished with a 55.7 percent faceoff win percentage.
