OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week senior men's basketball forward Chris Bryant and women's track and field shot put junior Arionna Darling are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 1-7.
Bryant nearly averaged a double-double last week with 13.5 ppg and 9.5 rpg. He shot a sizzling 75.0 percent from the floor, knocking down 9-of-12 shots. Bryant scored a career high 18 points to lead the RedHawks at Eastern Michigan, hitting 7-of-8 field goals against the Eagles to shoot a scorching 87.5 percent from the floor. Bryant's seven field goals also were a career high mark. He missed his first shot of the game but connected on his next seven attempts. He added a game-high nine boards, including five offensive rebounds. Bryant narrowly missed collecting a double-double again with a game-high-tying 10 rebounds and nine points to propel Miami to a 55-51 win against Bowling Green on Saturday and to lead MU to its second straight victory in Millett Hall. Bryant played 30 minutes in each game, both career-most totals.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Bryant has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Darling set a personal best in the shot put marking 51-4.25 (15.65m) to come in third at the Meyo Invitational. Darling's mark gives her the top mark for the RedHawks in the 2016 season and the fourth in the Mid-American Conference.
