RedHawk Men Sweep Steeplechase Podium at Day Two of MACs

MUNCIE, Ind.- The RedHawks continued competing at the MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Ball State University Friday. The Miami women finished the day in second place with 41 points, while the men sit in second place with 70 points. In the 3K steeplechase, Petros Sanchez Ropero was named MAC champion, Anton Martinez was the runner-up and Tom Heal took third with a time of 8:47.85, each running top-10 program times.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Gabe Asbury, Ben Riegel and Blake Presley all scored points for the RedHawks in hammer throw. Asbury placed fourth with a mark of 58.05m, Riegel placed sixth with a mark of 57.90m and Presley placed eighth with a mark of 56.87m.
Kirk Knecht came in seventh in long jump for two points with a jump of 6.84m.
In shot put, Kate Hallie placed fourth with a mark of 14.65m, earning five points for the RedHawks.
Three RedHawks scored points in men's shot put: Riegel took third with a mark of 17.47m, Reilly Worthington was fourth with a throw of 17.25m and Presley took sixth with a throw of 17.16m.

On the track, Broderick Brittle qualified for the finals of the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.89.
Joey Valeski qualified for the 400m finals with a run of 48.40.
In the 100m prelims, Rondale Carridine qualified for the finals with a time of 10.77.
Camryn Dunn qualified for the finals of 100m dash, finishing in 11.82.
In the 800m prelims, Dominic Jackson and Adrian Stechschulte qualified for the finals with times of 1:50.04 and 1:51.98, respectively.
Avery Emerson qualified for the finals of the 800m with a run of 2:08.25.
The RedHawk men swept the 3K steeplechase podium. Sanchez Ropero won gold with a time of 8:45.20, Martinez took silver with a time of 8:47.22 and Heal claimed bronze with a time of 8:47.85. These runs are the third, fourth, and fifth best times in Miami's program history.
Linda Conchetto and Monica Guijarro scored points for the RedHawks in the women's 3K steeplechase. Conchetto was third with a time of 10:23.46 and Guijarro was eighth with a time of 10:34.36.
