RedHawk women take fifth place at MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Miami University women's swimming and diving meet ended the Mid-American Conference competition in fifth place, with a score of 410.50.
The trio of junior divers led the way in scoring on the day, racking in 36 points from the three-meter dive. Pei Lin set a MAC meet record with 406.00 points. Taylor LeCount finished eighth (224.70) and Jenna Karrow placed 12th (256.30).
Junior Stephanie LeMire swam a time of 2:14.14 in the 200-yard breaststroke, awarding her a third-place medal. Sophomore Holly Schuster tied for fourth in the event with Eastern Michigan's Delaney Duncan (2:15.36). LeMire and Schuster earned 31.50 points for the RedHawks.
Sophomore Shay Spelman placed seventh in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:59.16. Junior Julia Campbell swam the event in 17:07.12, putting her in the 12th position.
Junior Brittany Dudzinski and senior Emma Szczupakiewicz went 1-2 for the RedHawks in the consolation round of the 200-yard backstroke, earning ninth and tenth place, respectively. Dudzinski clocked in at 1:59.13, a new personal best for her and Szczupakiewicz finished in 2:01.32.
Freshman Grace Van Fossen earned five more points for Miami, placing 12th in the 200-yard butterfly. She clocked in at 2:03.08.
Senior Natalie Rohr took 14th place in the 100-yard freestyle (51.36) and fellow senior Gabby Veri finished 16th in the event.
The 400-yard freestyle relay ended the four day competition and the team of Veri, LeMire, Rohr and Krueger finished with a time of 3:24.78, touching the wall in sixth place.
Schuster made the All-MAC 2nd team for Miami, while LeMire and Lin made the 1st team. Lin also took home the Diver of the Year award for the second year in a row.
Next up for Miami is the NCAA Zone Diving competition in Bloomington, Indiana from March 10-12. Lin will be the lone diver from the RedHawks competing as she looks to take her momentum onto the national stage.
