NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A quick start by Lipscomb helped propel the Bisons to a 13-6 victory over the RedHawks Friday evening at Dugan Field. The defeat drops Miami's record to 1-3 in the early-going of the season.
Lipscomb got the scoring started in their opening at bat, scoring on a balk and a one-run single to left field. They padded their lead in their very next at-bat, adding two more on a couple one-run singles. The Bisons' lead stood at 4-0 through two innings of play.
Miami came back battling in the top half of the third. After two outs to start things off, Tyler Harris singled up the middle, which was followed by Chad Sedio and Adam Yack getting plunked in back-to-back at bats. Ross Haffey brought them all home in his opportunity at the plate, doubling to left center and cutting the Lipscomb lead to just 4-3. The Bisons responded with some two-out scoring of their own, belting a grand slam to left field and extending their lead to 8-3.
The bottom of the fourth saw Lipscomb extend their lead to 9-3 on an RBI single to right center. Miami responded in the top of the fifth when Harris was able to score from third on a wild pitch, cutting Lipscomb's lead to 9-4.
The Bisons added to their lead in the home half of the seventh, plating two on a wild pitch and a solo shot to left center. Lipscomb held a 11-4 edge through seven frames.
Miami fought back again in the eighth as Gary Russo collected his third home run of the season, a two-run shot. However, two insurance runs from the Bisons in the bottom half of the inning sealed the deal.
Several players made their Miami debuts Friday, including Shane Smith, Daniel Mooney, Cole Gnetz, Mizuki Shumsky and Kyle Winkler.
The Red & White get back in action Saturday at Belmont for game two of the Mule Mix Classic. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. ET.
