In its last competition before the U.S. National Championships, the Miami University senior synchronized skating team travels to Milan, Italy, for the Spring Cup Feb. 20-21. It is the second international competition for the RedHawk senior team, who earned a silver medal at the Mozart Cup in late January in its last competition. Miami notched first-place showings earlier in the season at the Anaheim ICE Challenge and Dr. Richard Porter Classic.
This weekend marks Miami's ninth appearance at the Spring Cup but its first since finishing third during the 2010-11 season. Miami has finished second at the Spring Cup five times, with its last silver medal finish coming during the 2006-07 season, third twice and fourth in its first appearance at the Spring Cup in 1995-96 in the first varsity season of synchronized skating.
Miami's senior team performs its short program to the song "Breath of Life". The RedHawks' free skate program has a Latin dance theme.
