Pierce named Women's Swimmer of the Week

CLEVELAND ââ'¬" Miami University freshman swimmer Allison Pierce was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. She made significant contributions as the team competed at the Ohio State Invitational this past Saturday and Sunday. The award is the first of Pierce's career.
Pierce was the leading swimmer for the RedHawks, capturing a first- and second-place finish. On Sunday, she earned her first collegiate win of her career by claiming a victory in the 200-yard butterfly. Her time of 2:04.31 was 1.37 seconds faster than her preliminary time (2:05.68) and 0.21 seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Kentucky.
On Saturday, Pierce took second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.97). She touched the wall only 0.11 seconds after Purdue's first-place finisher.
The next stop for Miami is the Mid-American Conference Championships, which will take place from Wednesday, Feb. 24 to Saturday, Feb. 27 at Cooper Pool in Bowling Green, Ohio.
