Synchronized Skating Impressive in Season Debut

Miami University's synchronized skating teams opened the season with a bang, capturing a pair of titles at the Mentor Ice Diamond Classic in Mentor, Ohio over the weekend.

"I was extremely pleased with all three teams' performances this weekend," said head coach Carla DeGirolamo. "It is nice to get our first competition under our belt, and have some good training direction and momentum moving forward in our training for the Dr. Porter Classic in December."

The Collegiate Team finished first with an overall score of 76.83. They scored a 32.69 in total elements and 44.14 in program components.

Miami's senior team finished first in the free skate with a total score of 95.63 (37.77 total elements, 57.86 program components) ahead of Adrian College (90.57).

Finally, Miami's junior team finished second in the short program with a total score of 35.30 (16.16 total elements, 20.14 program components). Adrian College finished first with a score of 45.18.

Miami returns to action this weekend. The collegiate team will perform during Friday's ice hockey intermission and the junior team will do the same on Saturday night.
