Nov. 14, 2016 For a fourth consecutive year, student-athletes at Miami University are not waiting until they graduate to give back to their alma mater; they're doing it now. Miami is the first FBS institution to accomplish four consecutive years of 100-percent giving.
Miami announced that once again, 100-percent of current student-athletes have made a financial gift to the Red & White Club, through an initiative called "Committed Champions." The idea, which originated with Miami's RedHawk Council, a student-athlete advisory council, is to encourage student-athletes to show their support of Miami Athletics, the University and their fellow RedHawks.
"Miami University's RedHawk Council continues to shine as a national leader in promoting philanthropy to support the student-athlete experience," said Coleman Barnes, Associate AD for Development. "For four consecutive years, 100 percent of Miami student-athletes have invested in the Graduating Champions Campaign by donating to the Red & White Club. This is always a powerful statement that we enjoy sharing with alumni and one that demonstrates the quality of student-athletes that we have at this outstanding university."
Any gifts made to the University through the Red & White Club support scholarships for current Miami student-athletes. The funds raised by Miami's student-athletes in this specific effort will provide books for two student-athletes for a semester.
"It is extremely refreshing to work with student-athletes who value their opportunities and are grateful for their position at this wonderful institution," said Jennie Gilbert, Associate AD - Senior Women's Administrator. "It took four years of dedication, persistence and respect for each other to meet this impressive goal. Our student-athletes fully grasp the concept of Love and Honor and show it in their support of their Miami family members."
