OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week senior men's basketball guard Geovonie McKnight and sophomore women's basketball guard Baleigh Reid are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 28-Jan. 3.
McKnight scored a career-high 24 points to lead all players in the RedHawks' lone game of the week against South Carolina State. It is the first 20-point scoring output by a RedHawk this season and the first of McKnight's career. McKnight was a sizzling 9-of-12 (.750) from the field, knocking down a career-best nine field goals. He added three assists, two steals and four rebounds in 34 minutes of action against the Bulldogs.
This is the first time this season and in his career that McKnight has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Reid led Miami to within an overtime of a tournament championship at the FAU Holiday Tournament this week. She averaged 18 points per game in the two games down in Boca Raton and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Reid scored 17 points in the win over LIU Brooklyn on Tuesday and followed it up the next night with a 19 point performance in 40 minutes of action against host FAU. Reid scored seven points and had a career-high five assists against Bowling Green on Saturday. She averaged 14.3 points per game for the week.
This is the third time this season and sixth time in in her career that Reid has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of Dec. 14-20.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, Jan. 11.
