Collegiate and Junior Teams Finish Third at Midwestern Championships

PORTLAND, Oregon—Miami University’s collegiate and junior synchronized skating teams each recorded third-place finishes at the Midwestern Championships on Saturday.
Skating to their USA-themed program, the collegiate team posted a score of 78.56 to finish third among an eight-team field. The RedHawks had a clean skate and notched a technical element score of 33.36 and a program component score of 45.20. Western Michigan finished first among the collegiate division with a score of 80.22, while Michigan finished second with a score of 79.50. Adrian College placed fourth with a score of 66.26 followed by North Dakota (56.32), Illinois (55.20), Michigan State (54.22) and Fighting Irish (51.70).
With its Disney villainess-themed long program, Miami’s junior team posted a score of 77.30 in the free skate and amassed a combined score of 120.20 to finish third among the four-team field. The RedHawks had one fall and posted a technical element score of 34.22 and a program component score of 44.08. Starlights won the junior division with a total score of 135.92, while Hockettes finished second with a combined score of 129.38. Crystallettes finished fourth with a combined score of 118.46.
The collegiate team is idle until the U.S. National Championships in late February. The junior team returns to the ice in two weeks at the Junior World Qualifier in Dearborn, Mich., Feb. 12-13.
