SALZBURG, Austria--Off to a strong start at the Mozart Cup, Miami University's senior synchronized skating team sits in second place after Friday's short program. Representing the United States among a 13-team international field, the RedHawks lead third-place Canada by a 6.44 margin and trail first-place Finland by just 6.42 points.
With a clean skate to the song "Breath of Life," the RedHawks notched a score of 58.10 in the short program. Miami earned a technical element score of 27.07 and a program component score of 31.03.
Marigold (Finland) leads the senior field with a score of 64.52. Team Meraki (Canada) sits in third with a score of 51.66. Zoulous (France) is in fourth with a score of 47.12, while Italy's Hot Shivers (40.96), Switzerland's Cool Dreams (39.72), Czech Republic's Olympia (38.58), Hungary's Team Passion (37.97), Czech Republic's Kometa (32.59), Italy's Ladybirds (30.24), Croatia's Zagreb Snowflakes (28.39), Austria's Sweet Mozart (21.94) and Belgium's Team Temptation (20.25) round out the field, respectively.
The RedHawks return to action on Saturday with the free skate event, which begins at approximately 2:15 p.m. (ET).
