OXFORD, Ohio - In their first meet of 2016, Miami dropped a competition to the University of Cincinnati, just four points shy of a win, ending the meet with a final score of 151-147 on Wednesday evening, Jan. 13, in the Nixon Aquatic Center.
The men turned in impressive performances for the first meet back after an extended break. Miami captured wins in seven of the sixteen events, including the diving competitions.
The diving team made a splash in this evening's competition after sweeping the one-meter and three-meter events. Miami placed top-five finishers in the one-meter with junior Sean Sargent leading the pack in first, followed by senior Cole Fryman in second, freshman Harrison Moncino in third, freshman Ryan Nash in fourth and senior Michael Nash in fifth.
The squad came back later in the meet to take top-five again in the three-meter, with Moncino taking first. The divers' performance contributed a total of 32 points to Miami's final score.
Freshman Jake Precious claimed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a final time of 51.63. Freestyle specialist Lucas Brock took first in the 50-yard freestyle, beating out the competition by two-tenths of a second.
Senior Evan Bader had an impressive showing in the 200-yard breaststroke where he clocked a time of 2:05.5, securing another first-place finish for the RedHawks. Sophomore Ross Rybakowicz won the 200-yard IM, clocking a time of 1:54.71. In the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore Peter Simcox took first with his time of 50.49.
Miami travels to Buffalo N.Y. to take on the University at Buffalo on Sat. Jan 16 in their first away meet of 2016. Events are set to begin at noon in the Alumni Arena.
