OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week football sophomore linebacker Paul Moses and field hockey senior midfielder Bea Dechant are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 21-27.
Moses had seven tackles, two tackles for loss and a career-high two sacks in the loss last Saturday versus Western Kentucky. His seven tackles finished third on the team and he added a forced fumble as well.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Moses has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Dechant has been as consistent a performer as a coach could hope for in her time at Miami. The Mannheim, Germany native showed more of that this past week against Ohio State and Wake Forest. Against the Buckeyes, Dechant netted two goals and added an assist on the way to a dominant 5-0 win. The RedHawks faced a stiffer test this past Sunday against No. 7 Wake Forest. However, Dechant helped give the Red & White the lead by collecting an assist on a goal by sophomore Megan Paul. While the 'Hawks ultimately lost the game, Dechant has been a key piece of a Miami defense who has allowed just 12 goals in 11 games and have taken several top-10 teams to the brink.
This is the first time this season and second time in her career that Dechant has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 4, 2012.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, October 5.
