BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - A feisty Bowling Green soccer team battled back to tie Miami late in the second half, but Rachel Marble had other ideas as her goal in the waning moments gave the RedHawks a 2-1 victory.

Marble's second goal of the season handed MU (5-3, 1-0 Mid-American) its third-straight victory, with this one coming in the Red and White's MAC opener.

"This was a typical MAC soccer game tonight," head coach Bobby Kramig said. "I give a lot of credit to Bowling Green, they are a tremendously improved team. They gave us a hard time tonight and scored a beautiful goal. I'm very pleased by the resiliency our kids showed tonight. We showed a lot of character and I'm proud of the team tonight."

Miami's first opportunity of the night came on a set piece where Stephanie Dillon served a corner kick into the middle to Katie Alexander, who headed one towards the net that Lauren Cadel scooped up. The same combination occurred on another corner kick in the 17th minute, with that attempt going over the net.

The RedHawks thoroughly controlled possession throughout the first half, outshooting the Falcons 7-2 and holding a nearly identical 8-2 edge in corner kicks. Set pieces created good opportunities for MU, but it was unable to find the back of the net as the teams remained scoreless at the break.

Korrie Sauder finally broke through with the evening's first goal in the 49th minute as she was the recipient of a pin point Haley Walter feed in front of the six-yard box, where she finished off her second goal of the year. That tally was nearly added to moments later when Dana Miller got a head on a corner kick feed that got behind Cadel, but was blocked and cleared away by a Falcon defender.

It appeared that MU would get another tally in the 58th minute as Haley Walter got a step on the defense and headed the ball in, but Miami was whistled offside to negate the score. The Falcons took that second life and started pushing players forward hunting for an equalizing tally. BGSU found that tying strike in the 74th minute when Erica Hubert fired an accurate shot that beat Vic Maniaci from just outside the 18-yard box to even the score at 1-1.

After yielding the tying tally, Miami settled play back down and reasserted its possession game. That improved play bore fruit in the 82nd minute when Kat Zalar lifted a beautiful cross to Marble, who headed home her second goal of the year to put the Red and White back on top 2-1. That strike was the last shot for either team as MU managed to grind out the final 8:09 to secure the victory.

The RedHawks finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots, putting six of their attempts on target. Miami also had a 14-6 edge in corner kick attempts. Maniaci made one save to win her third-straight decision while Cadel turned aside three of the five shots she faced.

Miami finishes up its weekend road swing at Eastern Michigan on Sunday. That match kicks off at 1 p.m.
