Skaters Honored at Postseason Banquet

OXFORD, Ohio—Miami University’s synchronized skating teams gathered with family and friends Sunday morning at Shriver Center to celebrate the 2014-15 season at the annual postseason banquet.
Twelve RedHawk skaters received awards for the banquet. Each team had a skater named outstanding skater, most improved skater and also awarded a spirit award. The senior and collegiate teams also had awardees for rookie of the year and outstanding senior.
Seniors Jennifer Stewart and Melissa Marchese were multiple award winners.
Stewart earned the Karin Sherr Trophy, which is awarded to a skater who embodies a true commitment to excellence both on and off the ice. This athlete demonstrates excellence in the core values of Miami Varsity Synchronized Skating in their daily lives – it is “who they are,” not just “what they do.” This student-athlete embraces the full collegiate experience and demonstrates continuous growth. She displays great discipline, commitment and passion in these five core pillars of education: Academics, Athletics, Community Service, Self Development, Team. This award is open to all members of the synchronized skating program and is voted on by all members of synchronized skating program and supporting staff. Stewart also was named the Senior Team Outstanding Skater.
Marchese earned the collegiate team awards for Senior of the Year and Outstanding Skater.
Seniors Ashley Mulhern and Chandler Carroll captured the Senior of the Year and Spirit Award, respectively, for the senior team. Freshman Sage Kelner was tabbed the senior team Most Improved Skater, while junior Alyssa Nowak earned the senior team’s Rookie of the Year award.
Juniors Michelle Parece and Rebecca Sievewright were named the collegiate team’s Rookie of the Year and Spirit Award winners, respectively, while sophomore Anne Marie Misey was named the team’s Most Improved Skater.
From the junior team, sophomore Jessica Lemchuk earned the Outstanding Skater award, while freshman Anna Webster was the Most Improved Skater and freshman Erica Steinel was the Spirit Award winner.
