Avon, Ohio Â- The Mid-American Conference announced their annual All-MAC honors Tuesday evening and three RedHawks made the list, the second consecutive season in which that has ocurred. Matt Honchel (Harrodsburg, Ky./Mercer County), Adam Yacek (Austin, Tx./Lake Travis) and Jake Romano (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown) were each bestowed with honors.
Honchel was named a First Team All-MAC performer, the third time over his four years at Miami. The first time was during a historic freshman campaign in 2012, in which he hit .395, collected 92 and was named MAC Freshman of the Year. The outfielder followed that up by earning the honor again his sophomore season in 2013. This season, the senior hit a conference-best .367, drove in a team-high 38 runs and scored 30 runs.
Yacek received Second Team All-MAC honors. The sophomore began the season as a depth player but emerged as a prominent force, both in the batter's box and out in the field. The Texas native hit .337 and led the team with 22 extra base hits and six home runs. His .577 slugging percentage ranked second in the in the MAC, while his five triples ranked fifth in the conference.
An Illinois native, Romano was the lone RedHawk named to the all-defensive team. The speedster is a former MAC Freshman of the Year and was one of the few players to not commit a single fielding error on the year. Romano also helped on the offensive side of things as he hit .296 and scored a team-high 44 runs on the year.
The RedHawks' season ended this past weekend against Ohio. 14 seniors were recognized prior to the season finale on Saturday.
