OXFORD, Ohio - The RedHawks made things interesting late but fell to Ohio, 9-6 Thursday at McKie Field at Hayden Park. Miami scored the game's last four runs, but it was not enough to overcome a quick Bobcat start.

Ohio claimed the game's first run in their opening at-bat. A two-out RBI single up the middle put the Bobcats up, 1-0, through a half inning of play.

Miami tied things up in the bottom half of the second. With one out already recorded, Steve Sada earned a single up the middle. Then, after a strikeout, Jacob Wolf crushed a double off the left center wall, scoring Sada and evening the game at one apiece.

Ohio jumped back in front in the top of the third on back-to-back sac flies. The Bobcats held a 3-1 advantage through two and a half innings of play. The RedHawks responded in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the Bobcat lead in half. Jake Romano hit a one-out triple off the right field wall, which was followed by a Matt Honchel RBI groundout. The Bobcats were clinging to a 3-2 lead through three innings of play.

The Bobcats extended their lead in the top of the fourth on a sac fly, an error and a single. They plated four total, pushing their lead to 7-2. They tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth on two one-run doubles, placing their lead at 9-2 through four and a half.

The RedHawks made things interesting, scoring one in the seventh inning and three in the eighth. In the seventh, Spencer Dull belted his third home run of the season. Then, in the eighth, Adam Yacek tripled to right center, allowing Romano and Matt Honchel to score. Romano had reached on a leadoff single while Honchel earned a base on balls. A Max Andresen sac fly capped off the scoring. Ohio held a 9-6 lead through eight innings of play.

With both teams going down in order in the ninth, the Bobcats came away with a 9-6 victory. Miami starter Jacob Banks (3-8) took the loss for the RedHawks. He went 3.1 IP, allowed seven runs (three earned) on seven hits and struck out one. Will Schierholz carried the load in relief for the Red & White. He tossed four and a third innings of scoreless baseball.

With Bowling Green winning their game Thursday afternoon, the RedHawks' best chance at earning at MAC Tournament bid will be if they can win the last two of their series with Ohio. In addition, the RedHawks would need Akron, who lost Thursday, to drop both of their final two contests against Kent State.

The RedHawks are back in action Friday for game two against Ohio. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
