DAYTON, Ohio – The Miami University softball team dropped a midweek game to Wright State, 6-3, on Tuesday. Due to the rainy weather, the second game of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled. The RedHawks fall to 21-14 on the season, while the Raiders improve to 11-24.

Wright State struck first with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning off Miami starter Remy Edwards to take an early 2-0 lead.

The ‘Hawks got on the board in the top of the third inning. Senior outfielder Tiyona Marshall led off with a single to second base. She advanced to second when the second baseman threw the ball away. A sacrifice bunt by junior designated player Tanya Busby moved her up to third. Marshall scored on a groundout by sophomore second baseman Eryn McCarver.

The Raiders completed their scoring with two runs in the bottom of the third and one run in the fourth off of Edwards and Miami relief pitcher Megan Mattera. Junior Amber Logemann came into the contest in the fifth inning, and held Wright State without a hit the remainder of the game.

In the top of the fifth, McCarver led off with a double down the rightfield line. Junior outfielder Taylor Shuey singled to leftfield to move her up to third. McCarver cut the RedHawk deficit to 6-2 when she scored on a groundout from freshman catcher Rylee Whispel.

In the top of the seventh, McCarver led off with a triple to right center. Shuey made it 6-3 with a fly out to centerfield that allowed McCarver to come home on the sacrifice fly. Miami would get one more baserunner, but was unable to score again, allowing Wright State to take the 6-3 victory.

Shuey finished the game 2-for-3 with one RBI. McCarver was 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Marshall finished 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Miami returns to action on Friday when it travels to Bowling Green for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
