Golden Flashes Edge RedHawks, 4-3

OXFORD, Ohio – The RedHawks (8-30, 6-10 MAC) took the game’s first lead but fell to Kent State, 4-3 Friday, in a tightly-contested MAC East matchup at McKie Field at Hayden Park.
As mentioned, Miami garnered the game’s first runs. In the bottom of the fourth and with two outs already recorded, Spencer Dull singled through the left side to give the RedHawks a baserunner. The next at-bat, Jacob Wolf crushed his second career home run over the left field wall, giving Miami a 2-0 lead through four innings of play.
Kent State answered in the top of the fifth. The RedHawks set down the first two batter, but Tim DalPorto earned a two-out single. Then, Luca Fuscardo reached on an error. Dylan Rosa doubled down the left field line, allowing DalPorto and Fuscardo to score. The game was knotted at two apiece through four and half innings played.
The Golden Flashes took the lead for good in the top of the sixth. Back-to-back solo shots Tommy Monnot and Conner Simonetti pushed Kent State into the lead, 4-2. Miaim chipped into the lead in the bottom half of the sixth when Jake Romano scored on a wild pitch.
Gus Graham (0-3) took the loss for the RedHawks. He went six innings pitched, surrendering eight hits and four runs (two earned), while striking out six.
The RedHawks return to action Saturday as they take on Kent State for game two of the series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
