Women’s Tennis
Last Week: Behind a gritty effort, Miami notched a 4-3 win against Ball State to finish the MAC regular season with an 8-0 mark. After securing its 21st MAC crown last week, the RedHawks clinched their 20th outright title with the triumph over the Cardinals on Sunday. Senior Alix Thurman battled back from a 6-3 loss in the first set at No. 1 singles to notch 6-4, 6-4 wins in the next two to give Miami its fourth point in the thrilling 4-3 win. (Recap) This Week: Miami hosts the MAC Tournament this week, which takes place April 24-26. The No. 1 seed RedHawks have a bye to Saturday’s semifinals.
Softball
Last Week: Miami (24-19 overall; 8-6 MAC) went 1-3 in MAC games over the weekend. After it dropped the opening game of its doubleheader to Northern Illinois, 2-1, senior first baseman Shanyn McIntyre made sure Miami went home happy on Friday, blasting a walk-off double to lead the RedHawks to a 4-3 win. (Recap) The RedHawks dropped a pair of low-scoring games on Saturday to Western Michigan. The Broncos took the opener, 1-0. They then scored a run in the top of the seventh to take the nightcap, 2-1. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks host Butler for a non-conference doubleheader this Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m. Miami then hits the road for MAC play over the weekend. The ‘Hawks travel to Akron on Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Miami then heads to Ohio for single games on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
Men’s Track & Field
Last Week: The RedHawks traveled to Champaign, Ill., for the Illinois Twilight. Miami placed fifth in the meet with 64.5 points. The Red and White’s efforts were aided by a third-place finish out of Andrew Dusing (1500m; 3:47.25) along with fourth-place performances from Sam Chester (110m hurdles; 14.43) and Peter Stefanski (high jump; 6-6.25) (Recap). This Week: Miami hosts its final outdoor meet of the season when it heads into the RedHawk Invitational on Saturday.
Golf
Last Week: Behind a fantastic final round, the Miami University golf team moved up six spots to finish in a tie for seventh at the Boilermaker Invitational. Despite a steady wind and cool temperatures, the RedHawks shot a final round score of four-over par 292 to finish at 19-over par. That was the second best round of the 15 teams participating in the event, behind eventual winner, sixth-ranked Illinois. The Illini won the tournament by 32 shots at 35-under par. (Day 1 Recap) (Day 2 Recap) This Week: The RedHawks will send four golfers to the Xavier Invitational this Monday and Tuesday. They will compete as individuals, and Miami will not generate a team score for this event.
Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving
Last Week: The RedHawk women’s team placed 17 on the Academic All-MAC Team (Release), while the Miami men’s team had 14 earn Academic All-MAC recognition. (Release)
Women’s Basketball
Miami University women’s basketball coach Cleve Wright announced the signing of Leah Purvis (Los Angeles, Calif./The Buckley School) to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Purvis will begin play for the RedHawks in the 2015-16 season. (Release)
Baseball
Last Week: In a pair of midweek games, Miami participated in the seventh annual Joe Nuxhall Classic, dropping games to Wright State (Recap) and Xavier (Recap). This past weekend, the RedHawks traveled to Akron for an important MAC East series. The RedHawks dropped Friday's matchup, 7-4 (Recap). The RedHawks got the best of the Zips on Saturday, earning an 11-9 victory behind the three RBIs of Jacob Wolf (Recap). The two teams met in a rubber match Sunday, which saw Miami battle hard and earn an 8-7 extra innings (13) victory (Recap). Jake Romano's home run in the top of the 13th inning proved to be the difference-maker. Will Schierholz threw 105 pitches in relief and got the first win of his Miami career. This Week: The RedHawks will travel to Wright State Wednesday to take on the Raiders in there third and final meeting of the season. Then, this upcoming weekend, the Red & White will host Kent State in a marquee MAC East matchup.
