OXFORD, Ohio – For their performances last week men’s track and field senior Tyler Yee and the entire senior women’s synchronized skating team are Miami’s Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of April 6-12.
Yee’s throw of 205-7 powered him to victory in the javelin throw at the All-Ohio Championship. With this throw Yee furthered his lead in the MAC standings and became the only MAC competitor to automatically qualify for the MAC Championship. This mark also pushed him into the top 48 of the region as he holds the final NCAA East Regional Preliminary qualifying spot.
This is the second straight week Yee has been named Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week.
With two powerful skates at the 2015 ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships in Hamilton, Ontario, the Miami University senior synchronized skating team finished eighth among a 25-team field representing 20 countries of the very best in the world. One of two teams representing the United States, the RedHawks finished with a combined score of 171.79. Its electric Elvis-themed free skate earned Miami a standing ovation from the crowd, the only standing ovation for a non-Canadian team, and garnered a score of 117.06 for the program, moving the Red and White up a spot in the final standings. A beautiful performance to “The World is Ours” earned Miami a score of 54.73 for its short program.
This is the first time that the senior synchronized skating team has earned Athlete of the Week honors.
