RedHawks Finish 8th at World Championships

HAMILTON, Ontario—With its Elvis-themed free skate program, the Miami University senior synchronized skating team electrified the FirstOntario Centre crowd with a magnificent skate on Saturday afternoon at the 2015 ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships. The RedHawks amassed a combined score of 171.79 to finish eighth among the 25-team field that represented 20 different countries, moving up a spot in the standings on the final day.
The Elvis medley to “Heartbreak Hotel”, “A Little Less Conversation”. and “Blue Suede Shoes,” was a crowd-pleaser, and the clean skate garnered a score of 117.06 for the long program. The RedHawks notched a technical element score of 52.62 and a program component score of 64.44.
With a score of 214.73, Team Canada 1 edged Team Finland 1 (214.06) to captured the World Championships. Team Russia 1 finished third with a combined score of 203.48 followed by Team Finland 2 (202.44), Team Sweden 1 (201.97), Team Canada 2 (199.77) and Team USA 1—The Haydenettes (192.73). Team Russia 2 followed Miami in ninth place with a score of 170.46, while Team Germany rounded out the top 10 with a score of 162.34.
Miami’s competitive season is concluded, however, all three teams will perform in the annual Miami University Ice Show May 1-2.
