OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University softball team dropped a 10-0 decision to Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday in non-conference action. The game ended in six innings due to the run-rule. The RedHawks fall to 18-12 on the season, while the Colonels improve to 15-18.
EKU scored two runs in the first and three runs in the third off of the Miami starter, sophomore Kelsey Fredericks. Because of two errors, only two of those runs were earned. Senior Remy Edwards came into the game to relieve her and settled things down until the Colonels scored one in the top of the fifth and four in the top of the sixth to finish off the run-rule victory.
The RedHawks best chance to score came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Junior first baseman Hailey Reed led off with a single up the middle, while a single through the left side by Edwards put runners on first and second with no one out. With two outs, junior designated player Tanya Busby walked to load the bases, but Miami was unable to bring a run in.
Senior catcher Shanyn McIntyre finished the game 2-for-3 for the ‘Hawks.
The RedHawks return to Mid-American Conference action on Friday when they host Buffalo for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
