OXFORD, Ohio – Two Miami divers will travel to compete in the NCAA Zone C Diving Championship at Ohio State’s McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio. Juniors Michael Nash and Cole Fryman will be representing the RedHawks this weekend. The meet beings this Thursday, March 12, and finishes on Saturday, March 14.
The two divers were admitted into the competition after Miami defeated Ball State last month Feb. 7, 160-135.
Nash qualified for the meet after he took first place in the three-meter competition with his score of 354.76. In the one-meter competition, Nash claimed second with a total of 307.72 points. The junior diver attended the championships last season, where he claimed 18th place in the three-meter and 27th in the one-meter.
Fryman made the cut after he tallied a total of 303 points in the one-meter. The three-meter competition saw a third-place finish from Fryman with his total of 333.08 points. This is first Zone Diving Championship.
The NCAA Zone C Diving Championships are just one of five such events taking place across the country. Each one is allotted qualifying births to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, which kick off later this month. The finals in each event are comprised of the top 18 finishers in the preliminary rounds. A pre-determined number of divers based on their finish in each event will continue on to the NCAAs.
The events are set to begin on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the one-meter.
