Hockey
Last Week: Miami took the ice outdoors at Soldier Field for the second time in three years when it faced Western Michigan in the Hockey City Classic on Saturday. After enduring an hour and a half delay, Alex Wideman tallied his first goal since Nov. 7 to hand Miami a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. A three-goal outburst with power play goals by Riley Barber and Kevin Morris followed by an even strength tally by Sean Kuraly gave the Red and White a commanding 4-0 lead through two periods. Miami had to withstand a Western Michigan surge in the third as the Broncos scored twice in a 37-second span just over eight minutes into the third before striking again with 45 seconds remaining. The RedHawks ultimately prevailed in the end to move into third place in the NCHC standings (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks head out to Colorado Springs for a two-game weekend series at Colorado College beginning on Friday night.
Men’s Basketball
Last Week: Miami dropped a pair of heart-breakers by a combined three points. The RedHawks were edged by Northern Illinois on Wednesday, 69-67. (Recap) On Saturday, Miami was clipped at Kent State 61-60. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks travel to Eastern Michigan for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Miami then returns home to host Ohio in the second game of a women’s and men’s doubleheader against the Bobcats with the women tipping off at 1 p.m. and the men following at 3:30 p.m. Both games will be televised on ESPN3/ESPN Full Court and Time Warner Cable in Ohio and Western New York. Miami will retire Charlie Coles’ No. 10 during the men’s game and is asking fans to show their love and honor for Coach Coles by wearing a red mock turtleneck or No. 10 Jersey. Fans may receive a $5 discount at the door for participating. Women’s Basketball
Last Week: Miami (3-18 overall, 0-10 MAC) led at the half, but a tough shooting night in the second half allowed Northern Illinois to come back and take a 60-49 victory Wednesday evening in its only game this past week. (Recap) The RedHawks were originally scheduled to face Eastern Michigan on Saturday, but the game was postponed. (Release) This Week: Miami travels to Kent State on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip. The RedHawks return home on Saturday to take on Ohio at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable and ESPN3 and is the women’s basketball team’s second annual Think Pink game. Softball
Last Week: Miami (3-2 overall) opened the season at the Total Control Sports Invitational, an indoor tournament played in the outskirts of Chicago. The RedHawks earned a split on its opening day on Friday. Miami fell to Samford, 5-0, in its season opener. It came back to defeat Syracuse, 6-4, in the nightcap. (Recap) Miami earned another split on Saturday at the indoor Total Control Sports Invite tournament. The RedHawks defeated North Dakota, 9-7, in the morning. They then fell to UIC, 6-0, in the evening. (Recap) Miami completed a successful opening weekend with a 4-3 victory over Loyola (Chi.) on Sunday. (Recap) This Week: Miami travels to Austin Peay for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. (EST).
Golf
Last Week: The RedHawks were idle last week. This Week: The spring season begins with the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play tournament this Monday and Tuesday. The RedHawks are seeded second and will take on seventh seed Ohio in the morning match on Monday. (Bracket)
Women’s Swimming & Diving
Last Week: Miami concluded its regular season with a 172-126 win over rival Ohio on Saturday afternoon at Ohio University’s Aquatic Center. (Recap) The RedHawks finished the regular season 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the MAC. This Week: The RedHawks are idle from competition until the MAC Championships Feb. 25-28 at Eastern Michigan's Michael H. Jones Natatorium.
Men’s Swimming & Diving
Last Week: Seven first-place finishes propelled Miami to a 160-135 win over Ball State Saturday afternoon at the Nixon Aquatic Center in the RedHawks’ final regular-season meet. (Recap) This Week: Miami is off until the Mid-American Conference Championships March 5-7 in Geneva, Ohio.
Synchronized Skating
Last Week: The RedHawk junior team finished eighth among a 12-team field at the Junior World Qualifier on Saturday evening. The RedHawks entered the free-skate portion in ninth place and moved up one spot in the final standings with a final combined score of 115.67. (Recap) This Week: Miami is idle from competition until the U.S. National Championships, however, all three teams will host a Nationals Send-Off Exhibition at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 in Steve “Coach” Cady Arena. Admission is free.
Women’s Tennis
Last Week: Despite holding both a late 3-2 lead and match point, Miami was unable to pull out a victory, falling 4-3 Saturday to the Xavier Musketeers at the Riverside Athletic Club. (Recap) This Week: Miami turns its attention to a pair of matches in Atlanta, Ga. against Georgia State and Furman. The RedHawks face the hosting Panthers on Saturday Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. and the Paladins on Sunday Feb. 15 at 10 a.m.
Women’s Track and Field
Last Week: A select group of Miami throwers bused a few hours north for the Akron Invitational. In a rare indoor occurrence of the event, Adaora Anunike took second in the discus after unleashing a throw of 144-11. Other Miami leaders were Ashley Frahm in the weight throw (seventh; 51-1) and Amelia Strickler in the shot put (third; 51-7) (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks split their squad by sending competitors to the Grand Valley Big Meet and the SPIRE Invitational this weekend.
Baseball
This Week: The team opens up the 2015 campaign in Starville, Miss. for the Mississippi State Classic. The RedHawks take on Cincinnati on Friday and Mississippi State on Saturday. Saturday's game will be televised on SEC Network +.
