Miami Junior Team Finishes Eighth

MALBOROUGH, Mass.—Miami University’s junior synchronized skating team finished eighth among a 12-team field at the Junior World Qualifier on Saturday evening. The RedHawks entered the free-skate portion in ninth place and moved up one spot in the final standings.
Miami finished with a combined score of 115.67 after posting a score of 74.73 for its free skate program set to music from the musical “Aladdin.” Miami notched a program component score of 43.40 and a technical element score of 32.33 for its free skate program and had one fall. On Friday, the RedHawks recorded a score of 40.94 for its short program to a Jock Jams Megamix.
Lexettes won the event with a combined score of 159.36 followed by Skyliners (153.97), Chicago Jazz (133.41), Hockettes (128.64), Team Braemar (127.52), St. Louis Synergy (125.16), Fond du Lac Blades (117.79), Miami (115.67), Synchroettes (113.96) and Team Delaware (101.80). Both California Gold and Starlights withdrew from the competition after the short program.
All three Miami teams are idle from competition until the U.S. National Championships in Providence, R.I., Feb. 26-28. The RedHawks will hold their National Send-Off Exhibition at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21 at Steve “Coach” Cady Arena. Miami will perform its competitive programs one last time for the Miami and Oxford Communities before heading to nationals. Admission is free.
