Juniors Finishes Eighth at Nationals

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Miami University’s junior synchronized skating team rounded out its stint at the U.S. National Championships at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on Friday evening as the RedHawks finished eighth among a 14-team field with a combined score of 120.06.
Competing in the free-skate event on Friday, the RedHawks recorded a score of 75.38 for their program set to music from the musical “Aladdin.” Miami recorded an executed element score of 33.25 and a program component score 45.83. They had a deduction of 3.00.
The RedHawks entered Friday night’s free skate in sixth place after posting a score of 44.68 to their Jock Jams Mega Mix short program.
Skyliners won the junior national championship with a combined score of 172.91 followed by Lexettes (166.80), the Hockettes (153.90), Chicago Jazz (147.76), Saint Louis Synergy (145.96), Fond Du Lac Blades (123.04), Crystallettes (122.89), Miami, California Gold (120.03), Synchroettes (116.51), Team Braemar (115.95), Starlights (111.87), Team Delaware (99.51) and ICE’Kateers (86.10).
This was the final event of the season for the Miami junior team. The RedHawk collegiate team shoots for its 11th-consecutive national title Saturday afternoon, and Miami’s senior team returns to the ice for their free skate competition Saturday evening. The senior team currently sits in second place among a 10-team field and trails the leaders by just 3.27 points.
