OXFORD, Ohio--As a final tune-up for their trip to the U.S. National Championships, the Miami junior, collegiate and senior synchronized skating teams will hold a Nationals Send-Off Exhibition on Saturday, Feb. 21. All three teams will showcase their competitive programs at Steve “Coach” Cady Arena at the Goggin Ice Center starting at 3 p.m.
Admission to the Nationals Send-Off Exhibition is free and open to the public.
This send-off exhibition skate will be the last public performance for the senior and junior teams before heading to the U.S. National Championships in Providence, R.I., Feb. 26-28. The collegiate team will perform one last time that evening at the first intermission of the Miami hockey game vs. Minnesota Duluth.
The event--one of the few times all three teams perform at home for the Miami and Oxford communities--is geared towards not only students, but family, fans and skating enthusiasts to show their support for the squads as they prepare for the national championships.
When the RedHawks travel to the U.S. National Championships next weekend, all three teams are vying for national titles.
The collegiate team tries for an 11th consecutive national title, while the senior team looks to earn a spot in the ISU World Championships with a top-two finish at the national championships. Miami’s junior team looks to earn its best finish at a U.S. National Championship, trying to top a fourth-place finish in 2007-08.
The RedHawk senior team performs their short program to the song “The World is Ours”. Their free skate program is an Elvis medley to “Heartbreak Hotel”, “A Little Less Conversation”, and “Blue Suede Shoes”.
Miami’s collegiate team skates its program to music from the movie “Nine” featuring the songs “Cinema Italiano” and “Be Italian”.
For the junior short program, the RedHawks will skate to the “Jock Jams Megamix”. The free skate program is choreographed to music from the musical “Aladdin”.
