RedHawks Swim in OSU Winter Invite Finale

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Miami men’s swimming and diving returns to Oxford after finishing off the second and final day of the Ohio State Winter Invitational on Sunday evening, Feb. 15, at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The RedHawks had solid performances turned in by underclassmen, including freshman Thomas Blackstone.
After turning in a top finish yesterday, Blackstone returned to the pool to take second place in 200-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 2:00.92. Blackstone also swam in the 50-yard freestyle where he finished in eight-place with his time of 21.26
Sophomore Maximilian Jelen finished the meet with a strong performance in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking a time of 1:55.95 earning him third place, respectively. Senior Michael Heavilon represented Miami in the 200-yard butterfly where he claimed fourth place with his time of 1:54.08.
Sophomore Steven Russo also competed in the 200-yard breaststroke to finish in seventh, coming in at 2:05.49.
The RedHawks had two swimmers take part in the 200-yard freestyle. Junior Sean DeMuro swam to a tenth place finish, clocking a time of 1:49.92, followed by sophomore Connor Cashman in 11th. Cashman also swam in the 50-yard freestyle where he earned 13th place with a final time of 21.52, followed by DeMuro in 16th.
With another meet under its belt, Miami sets its sights on the Mid-American Conference Championships in Geneva, Ohio, March 5-7. A portion of the team will also represent Miami at the Ohio State Senior Championships in Oxford, Ohio in the Nixon Aquatic Center (March 6-8).
