Women's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (5-2) extended its winning streak to three games with a pair of victories over Horizon League teams last week. The RedHawks jumped to an early lead and held on late to earn a 75-72 victory over Valparaiso in its first road game of the season on Wednesday. (Recap) A strong shooting performance from the floor and balanced scoring throughout the lineup propelled Miami to a 65-54 victory over Oakland at Millett Hall on Saturday afternoon. (Recap) This Week: Miami is idle this week for finals. The RedHawks return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 15 when they travel to UT Martin for a 7 p.m. (EST) tip.
Hockey
Last Week: Scoring first both nights at Colorado College wasn't enough for Miami to prevent its winless streak from hitting seven games over the weekend. Kiefer Sherwood netted his second goal in as many games midway through the second period in Friday night's opener against the Tigers, but Hunter Fejes netted two goals in the third period to drop the RedHawks in a 2-1 decision in the series opener (Recap). Miami got things started on the right foot again as Sean Kuraly handed the Red and White a 1-0 lead in the first period on his second goal of the year. After falling behind 2-1 in the second period, Kevin Morris netted his first goal of the season to send the teams into the dressing room tied at 2-2 after 40 minutes. With time winding down, it was Fejes again who scored with 1:13 remaining to drop Miami to 5-9-2 overall and 2-7-1-1 in NCHC play (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks are idle for finals and the holiday break and will return to the ice at home against RPI for a Jan. 2-3 series.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Senior guard Eric Washington scored 18 points and added five assists, but it was not enough as Miami dropped a 78-64 decision at IUPUI on Saturday. (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks return to action on Sunday, Dec. 13, hosting Wright State at 1:30 p.m.
Synchronized Skating
Last Week: Miami brought home three medals from the Dr. Richard Porter Classic. Behind dominant performances, the senior and collegiate teams each earned gold, while the junior team had a strong season-opening weekend and placed fourth to earn a pewter medal at the event. (Day 1 Recap) (Day 2 Recap) (Day 3 Recap) This Week: Miami is off until the junior and collegiate teams head to Sychrho Illinois on Jan. 16 in Oak Lawn, Ill. The senior team returns to the ice Jan. 22-23 at the Mozart Cup in Salzburg, Austria.
Indoor Track
Last Week: The RedHawks began their 2015-16 indoor season with four first place finishes at the IPFW Mastodon Opener. Amelia Strickler won the shot put with a solid mark of 49-7. Caitlin Redmon won the long jump with a leap of 17-4. Hope Turner and Lauren Boyd finished first and second after they both cleared 11-0.75 in the pole vault but, Turner received the win because she cleared on an earlier attempt. Kathie Wollney won the 200m dash finishing in 26.44 seconds (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks will break for final exams and the holidays and return to action Jan. 8 at the Ohio State Buckeye Invitational.
Women's Swimming
Last Week: The RedHawks won the 22nd annual Miami Invitational, finishing with 2240.5 total points after three days of competitive swimming. They defeated Emory (1590), Toledo (1571), Denison (1451.5), Ball State (891.5) and Urbana (168.5). Miami had four individual swimmers, Holly Schuster, Shay Spelman, Michele Rielly and Brittany Dudzinski win races. Stephanie LeMire won two, the 200-yard IM and 200-yard backstroke. Miami also won three of the five relay events this weekend. (Day 1 Recap) (Day 2 Recap) (Day 3 Recap) This Week: The RedHawks will have over a month long break for finals and their annual winter training session in Florida. They will be back in the pool on Jan. 13 for a dual meet against Cincinnati.
Men's Swimming
Last Week: Miami finished third in the 22nd annual Miami Invitational, tallying a total of 1736 points over the course of the three-day competition. Denison finished first with 3188.5 points, Emory in second with 1807 points and Urbana in fourth with 267.5 points. Evan Bader won the 200-yard breaststroke and claimed second in the 100-yard breaststroke. Hutch Blackstone followed Bader in the 100-yard breaststroke to finish third. RedHawks saw drops in their times across the board, many turning in D3 qualifying times. (Day 1 Recap) (Day 2 Recap) (Day 3 Recap) This week: The RedHawks go on an extended break for their annual winter training in Coronado, Calif. They will compete against Cincinnati after the New year on Jan. 13, 2016.
