Collegiate Captures First at Dr. Porter Classic

Skating to its America-themed program, the RedHawks amassed a score of 85.18, besting second-place Delaware (71.90) by 13.28 points in the season-opening competition for the collegiate team. The win among the 10-team field was the RedHawk collegiate team’s eighth-straight first-place finish dating back to the 2013 Dr. Porter Classic. Adrian College finished in third with a score of 71.34 and was followed by Western Michigan (70.28), Michigan (69.66), Michigan State (68.76), Illinois (51.66), Fighting Irish (48.22), Maryland (43.22) and Liberty (33.66).
The collegiate team’s gold medal was the second gold-medal finish for Miami at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic with the senior team also taking gold on Saturday evening. It was the third medal for the Red and White with the junior team claiming a pewter medal on Saturday.
Miami is off until the junior and collegiate teams head to Sychrho Illinois on Jan. 16 in Oak Lawn, Ill. The senior team returns to the ice Jan. 22-23 at the Mozart Cup in Salzburg, Austria.
