OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week senior men's basketball forward LJ Livingston Jr. and sophomore women's basketball guard Baleigh Reid are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of Dec. 14-20.
Livingston sparked Miami in a pair of games and nearly averaged a double-double recording 13.5 ppg and 9.0 rpg while shooting a scorching 80.0 from the field for the week. Livingston posted his first career double-double in the RedHawks' 64-53 win against Jackson State on Tuesday with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Livingston added two blocked shots against the Tigers and was 5-of-7 (.714) from the floor. He came back with an impressive performance at Tennessee Tech as he was near perfect from the field with a 7-of-8 effort (.875). He tied a career-high for field goals and scored 16 points to lead the RedHawks against the Golden Eagles, one off his career-high. He pulled down a game-high-tying eight rebounds and added a block and a steal in 33 minutes of action.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Livingston has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Reid had a pair of strong individual performances against strong competition in Miami's two road games this week. She averaged 17.5 points per game after scoring 16 at UT Martin and 19 at Michigan. She also had five rebounds, five assists and two steals on the week. Reid shot 50 percent (12-for-24) in the two games, including 50 percent (2-for-4) from three-point range. She led the RedHawks in scoring in both games this week and has now led Miami in scoring in eight of nine games this season.
This is the second time this season and fifth time in in her career that Reid has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of Nov. 16-22.
Due to the holidays and lack of events, there will be no Athlete of the Week next week. The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, Jan. 4.
