OXFORD, Ohio -- For their performances last week senior men's basketball guard Eric Washington and sophomore women's basketball forward Molly McDonagh are Miami's Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 23-29.
Washington paced Miami last week, averaging 12.4 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.5 apg and 4.0 spg. He spearheaded Miami to a dramatic 64-63 come-from-behind win against UCF on Saturday to cap a five-game, nine-day stretch. Trailing by as many as 13 points in the second half, Washington and the RedHawks rallied for a one-point triumph. He scored 13 of his game-high 15 points and had five of his career-high six steals in the second half against the Knights. He notched one more steal individually than UCF recorded as a team. Washington snagged three steals in the final 5:18 of the game, and sunk the game-winning jumper with 23 seconds remaining to lift Miami to victory. Earlier in the week as MU played its fourth game in five days, Washington tallied 10 points, four assists and two steals against IPFW.
This is the second week in a row and fifth time in his career that Washington has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
McDonagh did a little bit of everything on both sides of the floor in Miami's two games this past week. She tied her career-high in both games, scoring 10 points. McDonagh had her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds against EKU on Tuesday. She also had an assist and two steals in 34 minutes action. In the win over Morehead State on Sunday, McDonagh scored 10 with eight rebounds, a career-high five assists and three steals in 31 minutes of action.
This is the first time this season and first time in in her career that McDonagh has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced Monday, Dec. 7.
