Football
Last Week: Trailing 34-7 just 55 seconds into the third quarter, Miami scored three consecutive touchdowns to get within 34-28 with 8:37 to play, but an Akron field goal with 2:45 to go clinched the game for the Zips. Miami turned the ball over four times in the loss. Freshman quarterback Billy Bahl was 11-of-25 for 206 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing two interceptions. (Recap) This Week: Miami will conclude its 2015 season with a trip to UMass. Game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and be carried live on ESPN3.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Eric Washington scored 19 points and had seven assists as Miami dropped its season opener at Xavier on Friday, 81-72. After trailing by double figures in the second half, MU closed within one with six minutes to go but got no closer. (Recap) This Week: Miami hosts Kenyon on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in its home opener and then hosts a three-day, six-game Men Against Breast Cancer Challenge Nov. 20-22 with Lipscomb, Florida Atlantic and Northeastern all playing in the tournament. Hockey
Last Week: No. 3/4 North Dakota scored twice in a 20-second span early in Friday's first period and never looked back, scoring the first five goals en route to a 6-2 series opening win. Power play goals by Jack Roslovic and Josh Melnick cut it to 5-2 before UND capped the scoring in the third (Recap). Despite only 14 shots on goal, Miami was moments from pulling off an impressive upset win in Saturday's finale as Louie Belpedio and Sean Kuraly scored to stake the RedHawks to a 2-1 lead after two periods. While UND tied it up early in the third, Josh Melnick scored with 5:39 left to put MU back in front, but North Dakota tied it with 1:34 left and struck again 1:23 into overtime to escape with a 4-3 win (Recap). This Week: Miami returns home for an NCHC series against Omaha in its third series against a Frozen Four team from a year ago. (Schedule)
Women's Basketball
Last Week: The Miami University women's basketball team dropped its season-opening game to Northern Kentucky University, 71-57, on Friday. It was the Class at the Court game and featured nearly 1,500 students from the local Talawanda School District. Baleigh Reid led the RedHawks with 17 points (Recap) On Wednesday, head coach Cleve Wright announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. (Release) This Week: Miami has a pair of home games this week. The RedHawks host Evansville on Monday at 7 p.m. and will face Austin Peay on Thursday at 7 p.m. Both games will air live on ESPN3. Volleyball
Last Week: It was a perfect 2-0 week as Miami (20-9 overall, 12-4 MAC) concluded the regular season. remained focused on its goal of earning a bye in next week's Mid-American Conference Tournament as it went on the road and defeated Bowling Green, 3-1 (25-18, 19-25, 25-10, 28-26) Thursday night. (Recap) In an amazing back-and-forth battle that saw long rallies in every set, the RedHawks closed out the regular season with a 3-2 (26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 25-27, 15-11) win over Western Michigan Saturday evening. (Recap) On Tuesday, senior middle hitter Paige Hill was named MAC East Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row. (Release) On Wednesday, head coach Carolyn Condit announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. (Release) This Week: Miami begins its MAC Tournament Championship quest as the fourth seed when it takes on the winner of fifth seed WMU and eighth seed EMU on Friday in Athens, Ohio at 5:30 p.m.
Men's Swimming and Diving
Last Week: The team split up to compete in two different locations. Six swimmers traveled to Minneapolis, Minn. to compete in the Arena Pro Series. Over the course of three days, the men set new PR's some of which qualified them to swim in the finals. Evan Bader made the cut in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke. Jacob Prodoehl represented Miami in the 200-yard backstroke finals. On Friday, the rest of the RedHawks traveled to Columbus to take on OSU in dual-meet competition. Miami dropped the meet, 175-101, moving their dual meet record for the season to 1-2. (Recap) Looking Ahead: Miami is off until they host the 22nd Annual Miami Invitational, Dec. 3-5, in the Nixon Aquatic Center.
Women's Swimming and Diving
Last Week: Stephanie LeMire headed to the Arena Pro Series in Minneapolis, MInn. She finished 34th in preliminaries in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:13.46), two spots away from being able to compete in finals, 38th in preliminaries in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:42.88), and 58th in the 200-meter IM in prelims (2:25.08). The rest of the team traveled to Columbus to take on Ohio State and lost 173-116, dropping their dual meet record to 3-3. (Recap) Looking Ahead: Miami is off until they host the 22nd Annual Miami Invitational, Dec. 3-5, in the Nixon Aquatic Center.
Synchronized Skating
Last Week: The RedHawk senior team placed first in both the short program (61.82) and free-skate events (105.24) in their season-opener at the Anaheim ICE Championships on Sunday. Miami won the short program by an impressive 13 points and was the only team to eclipse 100 points in the free skate. (Recap) This Week: No teams will compete this week, but all three teams will be in action at the Dr. Porter Classic Dec. 4-6 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Cross Country
Last Week: At the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Madison, Wisconsin, Joe Stewart qualified for the national championships after posting his fastest 10K time of his RedHawk career covering the course in 30:27.4 finishing fourth overall. As a team the Miami men finished 12th in the team standings with 313 points. Among squads from the Mid-American Conference the 'Hawks finished third behind Eastern Michigan and Akron. In the women's race, Laura Bess led the way for the RedHawks posting a personal best 20:58.6 to finish 15th overall. As a team Miami posted 394 points to finish 14th in the region and fifth among MAC teams. (Recap) This week: Joe Stewart will represent the RedHawks and compete for NCAA National Championships this Saturday Nov. 21 at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
