ROCHESTER, Minn. - Another name has been added to the list of Miami University baseball student-athletes who had a successful summer league campaign, and this time it is Steve Sada. The junior made quite the name for himself, earning league postseason all-star honors, as well as receiving the Rawlings 'Big Stick' Award.
Sada, a Saegertown, Pa. native, played for the Alexandria Blue Anchors of the Northwoods League this past summer. In order to qualify for the Rawlings 'Big Stick' Award, a player must have had at least 2.7 plate appearances per team game. At Sada's position, second base, no one did it better as he hit an impressive .329 over the course of 60 games. In addition, he collected 43 runs, nine extra-base hits, 28 RBI and 13 stolen bases.
This past season for the RedHawks, Sada hit .259 but ranked third on the team in hits when all was said and done. He also played in a team-high 51 games, all of which were starts at second base. Not only a success on the field, Sada was tabbed an Academic All-MAC selection. During his freshman season in 2014, Sada hit for a .309 average to go along with 15 doubles, three triples, 21 RBI and 9 stolen bases. His effort was good enough to be named a Second-Team All-MAC performer and a Louisville Slugger All-American. In his first two seasons combined, Sada has been an iron man for the RedHawks, making 101 starts and appearing in 105 contests.
The Northwoods League is one of the top summer leagues in the country. The league has produced MLB starts like Max Scherzer and Jordan Zimmerman (Washington Nationals), Chris Sale (Chicago White Sox), Curtis Granderson and Lucas Duda (New York Mets) and Ben Zobrist (Kansas City Royals).
