OXFORD, Ohio - An overtime goal ended a defensive battle as the Miami University soccer team fell to Buffalo, 1-0, at home Friday.

The offensive action started early with Buffalo's (10-5-2, 6-2-1 Mid-American Conference) best chance of the half. Midfielder Kassidy Kidd was set up on the right side of the box, only to be thwarted by the quick reactions of junior goalkeeper Vic Maniaci as she shot off her line and grabbed the ball from Kidd's feet.

The RedHawk's (9-6-1, 5-3-1 Mid-American Conference) first chance came in the 15th minute when senior defender Lauren Kelly played the ball into the box. Junior midfielder Shannon Stearns got her head on the ball, pushing it just wide of the goal.

The RedHawks best chance of the half came late off a Buffalo foul. Senior midfielder Jess Bronke took the awarded free kick from just outside the box and sent a shot towards the bottom left corner of the goal, only to be denied by the diving effort of Buffalo goalkeeper Laura Dougall. The RedHawks dominated possession throughout the first half, outshooting the Bulls, 6-2.

Kidd started off the second half with another early chance for the Bulls when she was set up at the top of the box and sent a low shot that Maniaci was able to easily smother.

The best chance of the half for the RedHawks came in the 64th minute when junior midfielder Stephanie Dillon's cross skipped across the front of the goal, and just past the outstretched feet of two Miami forwards.

The next chance for either team came in the 75th minute when Buffalo forward Celina Carrero turned to make space just outside the box, and sent a shot towards the top corner of the goal that sailed just wide. The Bulls had another chance minutes later, when Kidd received the ball in the middle of the box and poked a shot towards goal only to be blocked by a RedHawk defender.

Neither team threatened for the remainder of regulation, sending the game to a sudden death overtime.

The only chance either team had in the first overtime period came in the form of a shot by Miami's sophomore forward Jenny Barr. Barr took a shot from well outside the box that rocketed just over the crossbar keeping the tie intact.

After very little action in the beginning of the second overtime period, the game ended in the 107th minute when, after gaining possession near midfield, defender Brianna Shingary took a shot from 25 yards out that curled past the outstretched fingers of Maniaci and into the back of the net.

Overall, the RedHawks held a 12-11 advantage in shots as well as a 6-1 advantage in corners. Losses out of town by both Ohio and Akron clinched a fourth-straight Miami berth in the MAC Tournament.

The RedHawks take the field again on Sunday against Akron at 1p.m. in Oxford.
