RedHawks Collect Another Shutout, Top Missouri State 3-0

OXFORD, Ohio - It was a soggy, frigid Friday evening at the Miami Field Hockey Turf, but the RedHawks took care of business on their way to a 3-0 win over Missouri State. The Red & White improved to 7-5 on the year, including 2-0 in the MAC.
Neither team took a stranglehold on the game early. The first half featured just three total shot attempts, two for Miami and one for Missouri State. Despite the lack of chances, the Red & White made it count in the game's 21st minute. Paula Portugal collected the Miami goal, her sixth of the season, deflecting the ball into the top of the net off of a Bea Dechant shot attempt.
The opening half ended with Miami maintaining a 1-0 lead.
Miami had a prime opportunity to take a two goal lead in the 37th minute when they earned a penalty stroke. However, the attempt went wide and the game remained 1-0 `Hawks. The RedHawks regrouped and broke through again in the 53rd minute when Mariona Heras buried her fourth goal on the season off of a feed from Carla Romagosa. The icing on the cake came in the 60th minute when Bea Dechant got the ball all alone in front of the MSU net and deked out the goalkeeper for her fifth score of 2015.
Miami goalkeeper Alysa Xavier moved to 7-5 on the year with the win. She also collected her fifth shutout of the season.
The RedHawks get back to the pitch Sunday as they as host No. 8 Maryland. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
