KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Western Michigan scored a goal early and another one late as it snapped the Miami soccer team's three-match winning streak by topping it 2-0 on Friday afternoon.

The RedHawks (9-5, 5-2 Mid-American) fall to second in the overall MAC standings with the setback.

Western Michigan (8-3-3, 5-1-1 MAC) got things started offensively in the fifth minute when Gina Maddi tapped in a crossing feed that took a couple of bounces before reaching her. That tally put WMU up 1-0 early on.

Miami had some opportunities and in terms of shots had the better of possession with a 5-4 edge in that end. WMU did take six corner kicks while holding MU without a corner during the opening 45 minutes, however, so Miami's set piece opportunities were limited. Despite a few good looks, the Red and White trailed by that single tally at the break.

The Broncos started to take over more of the possession in the second half and outshot the RedHawks by a 9-4 margin. Miami kept it a one-shot game as regulation wore on, but Emma Kahn eventually added an insurance tally in the 86th minute to cap the scoring.

Overall, WMU held a 14-10 advantage in shots and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks attempted. Vic Maniaci turned aside four Bronco shots while Stephanie Heber turned away all six shots she faced from the RedHawks.

Miami concludes the weekend with its final road match of the season at Northern Illinois. Opening kick is at 2 p.m.
