RedHawks Finish Third at Mozart Cup

SALZBURG, Austria—Season high scores for both its short and free skate programs propelled the Miami University senior synchronized team to a third-place finish among an 11-team field at the Mozart Cup. Miami finished with a combined score of 169.24 at the international event.
The RedHawks, one of two teams representing the United States, had a clean skate at the Mozart Cup on Saturday with its free skate program set to a medley of Elvis songs. Miami earned a technical element score of 48.77 and a program component score of 65.13 to compile a season-high score of 113.90 for its free skate.
Coming into Saturday’s potion of the competition, Miami sat in third place after recording a season-best score of 55.34 for its short program set to the song “The World is Ours.”
Les Supremes won the Mozart cup with a combined score of 189.13. The Rockettes—the defending world bronze medalists—had a strong skate on Saturday, notching the top score for the free skate, but were edged in the combined scoring with a total score of 189.00.
Behind a solid free skate, Miami increased its lead over its closest competitor, posting nearly an 11 point margin ahead of the fourth-place Crystallettes--the other team representing the U.S.--who finished with a total score of 158.97. They were closely followed by Team Berlin 1 in fifth place with a combined score of 158.72. Crystal (148.25), Hot Shivers (133.13), Olympia (114.67), United Angels (109.35), Team Passion (101.22) and Zagreb Snowflakes (93.15) rounded out the field, respectively.
The RedHawk senior team is idle from completion until the U.S. National Championships Feb. 26-28 in Providence, R.I. Miami’s collegiate and junior teams next compete at the Midwestern Championships Jan. 29-30 in Edina, Minn.
