Miami Swim & Dive Travels to Ball State

OXFORD, Ohio—Fresh off a 182.5-117.5 win against the University at Buffalo last week, the Miami University women’s swimming and diving team is back in action against Ball State University on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. in the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
Miami (4-2) enters the weekend on a three-meet win streak. This will be the RedHawks’ third of five straight weekends of competition. Four of these meets are against other Mid-American Conference schools.
Sophomore diver Jenna Karrow was named the MAC Co-Women’s Swimmer of the Week for her wins in the one- and three-meter dive against Buffalo last Friday, Jan. 16. This is the second weekly award won by a RedHawk swimmer in as many weeks and the third of the year.
Sophomore Stephanie LeMire racked up three individual wins last week in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.27), 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.76) and the 200-yard IM (2:06.79).
Three other Miami swimmers earned individual first-place finishes as well. Senior Katie Bootsma won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.99. Sophomore Elise Campbell swam the 200-yard free in 1:53.62 for the victory. Junior Michele Rielly touched the wall in 2:03.53 for first place in the 200-yard backstroke.
Ball State is currently 3-2 in dual meets, with their last two victories being from a double dual meet against IUPUI (167-133) and Xavier (178-116) on Jan. 9. They also came in fourth place out of six team at the Eastern Michigan Invite on Dec. 5-6. The Cardinals are led by third-year head coach, Kristy Castillo.
