MU Finishes Second in Free Skate Program

LOWELL, Mass.—Wrapping up its stint at the Colonial Classic on Sunday, the Miami University senior synchronized skating team recorded a score of 95.86 for its long program to place second in the free-skate event.
Set to an Elvis medley of “Heartbreak Hotel”, “A Little Less Conversation”, and “Blue Suede Shoes,” Miami had a solid skate but suffered three falls in its free skate program. The Haydenettes won the free skate with a score of 114.22.
Miami was coming off a win after a superb skate in the short program on Saturday night with its program choreographed to the song “This World is Ours”. The RedHawks topped the Haydenettes 55.22 to 51.48 in the short program event. There was no combined scoring for the Colonial Classic.
The RedHawk collegiate and junior teams return to the ice next weekend at the Mid-America Championships in Fraser, Mich. Miami’s senior team is off until its international trip to Salzburg, Austria to compete as Team USA at the Mozart Cup Jan. 23-24.
