Baumgartner Tabbed MAC Swimmer of the Week

CLEVELAND—Miami University senior swimmer Joe Baumgartner had an impressive weekend for the RedHawks at the Miami Invitational last weekend and was named the Mid-American Conference Male Swimmer of the Week for his efforts, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Baumgartner boasted two first-place finishes, the lone RedHawk to capture a first-place finish, and scored points for the RedHawks in four events last weekend. On the first day of the invitational, he turned in a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 20.20 and swimming a Division I provisional time. Baumgartner’s time was .36 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. He also swam the lead leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay, which finished fourth with a team time of 1:22.36.
On the second day of the meet, Baumgartner competed in the 100-yard backstroke where turned in a time of 52.99, earning him 16th-place overall. On the same day, he participated in the 200-yard freestyle where he placed 19th with his time of 1:40.55. Baumgartner also swam a leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay which took seventh-place with a team time of 6:53.26.
On Saturday, Baumgartner brought his A-game again when he turned in another first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. He touched the wall in a time of 44.71, .19 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Baumgartner swam in the final event of the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay, with the RedHawks taking eighth-place with their collective time of 3:09.12.
The Miami men wrapped up the weekend in fifth place with a total of 1254 points. Baumgartner amassed 95 individual points for Miami and 249 points including relay finishes.
