Miami off to Strong Start at Dr. Porter

ANN ARBOR, Mich.—In its season-opening competition, the Miami University synchronized skating teams got off to a solid start at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic on Saturday evening. The RedHawk senior team sits in first place among the eight-team field, while the junior team is in seventh among the 14-team field after the short program.
The RedHawk senior team, skating its short program to the song “The World Is Ours” got off to a strong start, notching a score of 51.78. Miami holds a 2.42 edge over second-place Skyliners heading into Sunday’s free-skate event. Crystallettes sit in third with a score of 45.72 followed by Adrian College (42.22), ICE’Kateers (40.82), Starlights (39.66), Western Michigan (37.06) and Team Excel (35.18).
Miami’s junior team, which skates its short program to the Jock Jams Megamix, posted a score of 38.90 for its first performance of the season. The RedHawks are just 6.60 points out of first place and a mere off of fifth place entering Sunday’s free-skate event. St. Louis Synergy leads the junior field with a score of 45.50 followed by Les Pirouettes (44.56), Crystallettes (43.96), Chicago Jazz (43.60), Synchroettes (40.34), Skyliners (40.26) and Miami in the top half of the field. Rounding out the bottom half of the junior division are Hockettes (38.78), Fond du Lac Blades (37.90), Starlights (37.27), Team Braemar (36.94), Team Delaware (33.80), California Gold (33.04) and ICE’Kateers (26.12).
All three Miami teams will be in action on Sunday, skating their free-skate programs.
