OXFORD, Ohio—Miami University’s women’s swimming and diving team is back in the pool Thursday, Dec. 4 through Saturday, Dec. 6 as they host the 21th Annual Miami Invitational facing off against Emory, Cincinnati, Wright State, Urbana, Denison and Toledo in the Nixon Aquatic Center. The invitational begins at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4.
The RedHawks look to build off of their 134-106 victory over Butler on Nov. 8. Miami is 2-2 in dual meets this season. Their other win on the season came on Oct. 18, when they faced Xavier. The two losses this year are at the hands of Big 10 teams, Purdue and Ohio State.
The leading swimmer for the RedHawks this season is sophomore Stephanie LeMire. She is the lone member of the team to have won MAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week honors. She did so for her efforts in the meet against Xavier, winning the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke. Against Purdue, she came in second in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke, and 200-yard IM. In the loss to Ohio State, LeMire earned the only first-place finish for the RedHawks in the 200-yard breaststroke. She also won the 100-yard backstroke against Butler. LeMire has also competed on two second-place 200-yard medley relay teams and a first-place 200-yard freestyle relay.
Other notable swimmers for Miami this year are sophomore Elise Campbell and senior Annie Marquiss. Campbell finished in second place with a time of 3:35.94 in the 400-yard freestyle relay against Purdue. She came in fourth place in both the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle against Ohio State. Campbell has also been on several placing relay teams this season. Marquiss clocked a time of 24.00, which won her the 50-yard freestyle against Xavier. She also earned second place in the same race against Ohio State with a time of 24.09. Like Campbell, Marquiss has been on successful relay teams this year.
