RedHawks Post 3.24 GPA in the Fall

The Miami University Athletics Department has announced that the RedHawks finished the fall semester with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.24, the second-highest GPA in Miami history. Overall, 360-of-528 student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher and 29 RedHawks finished the semester with a perfect 4.0.
“With all of the negative publicity surrounding student athletes and academics, I'm proud to be at an institution that recruits student-athletes that are willing to roll up their sleeves and work hard to earn a prestigious degree,” said Craig Bennett, Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services.
Women’s soccer led the charge with a team GPA of 3.64. Other teams that recorded a GPA of 3.0 or higher include: women’s cross country (3.49), men’s cross country (3.41), women’s basketball (3.38), women’s swimming (3.35), women’s track and field (3.35), golf (3.35), men’s swimming (3.33), tennis (3.33), volleyball (3.32), field hockey (3.24), synchronized skating (3.24), men’s track and field (3.19), baseball (3.15), softball (3.14) and hockey (3.02).
One team not on that list, football, finished the fall semester with a team GPA of 2.85, the highest cumulative GPA for football in over 10 years.
"Coach Martin and his staff are running succinctly on all cylinders when it comes to the football team's academics,” said Bennett. “With their cohesive support with our Learning specialists and coordinators we are all driving to help students succeed. As an academic staff we feel like we are all part of the same staff - like a team of mules pulling the same cart."
“Graduating Champions is what it’s about here at Miami University,” said Athletics Director David Sayler. “The success our student-athletes have shown in the classroom over the past few years is a testament to the hard work by this entire department and university.”
