Volleyball
Last Week: The RedHawks (21-9 overall) won a pair of MAC Tournament matches to advance to the MAC Championship. Miami got its Mid-American Conference Tournament run off to a great start as it cruised to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-18) victory over Kent State in the MAC Quarterfinals on Saturday. (Recap) Down 12-14 and facing two season-ending match points, the RedHawks rallied to take the fifth set, 19-17, and earn a dramatic 3-2 (25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 19-17) win over Northern Illinois in the Mid-American Conference Semifinals on Sunday evening. (Recap) This Week: Miami will take on fifth seed Western Michigan in the MAC Championship on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Athens, Ohio. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 (with no blackouts), BCSN and Time Warner Cable. The winner of the MAC Championship will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Hockey
Last Week: The No. 7 RedHawks renewed hostilities with NCHC rival Western Michigan at Steve ‘Coach’ Cady Arena last weekend. Miami got an early power play goal from Blake Coleman in Friday’s series opener while Jay Williams stopped 23 shots to post a 1-0 shutout win (Recap). The Broncos grabbed a lead early in the second period of Saturday’s finale, but the Red and White erupted for four goals in seven and a half minutes at the end of the frame to grab a 4-1 lead. Miami had five different goal scorers in what turned out to be a 5-2 win to finish off the series sweep (Recap). The wins give the RedHawks sole possession of first place in the NCHC as they enter an idle week. This Week: The RedHawks are idle until they host a two-game series with Nebraska Omaha on Dec. 5.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Miami split a pair of games, falling to Evansville, 69-50, (Recap) but rebounding for a 63-52 win to open its stint in the Cancun Challenge on Saturday afternoon. (Recap) Junior guard Geovonie McKnight led the RedHawks with a career high 19 points against the Flames. This Week: Miami continues play in the Cancun Challenge, facing Northwestern at 9:30 p.m. (ET) on Tuesday and either Virginia Tech or Northern Iowa on Wednesday. Both games will be televied on CBS Sports Network. Miami returns home to host Elon at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30 to wrap up the Cancun Challenge.
Women’s Basketball
Last Week: Miami split its opening week of games. Leading from start to finish, the RedHawks opened their season with a decisive 75-53 win over Cincinnati Christian University on Tuesday evening at Millett Hall. (Recap) (Photo Gallery) Despite a thrilling finish and a back-and-forth struggle that included 16 lead changes and 12 ties, Miami was edged in a hard-fought battle to UIC on Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall, 72-69. (Recap) (Photo Gallery) This Week: Miami hits the road for a pair of games this week, beginning with a 7 p.m. game at Oakland on Friday. It is followed by a 2 p.m. game at 13th-ranked Michigan State on Sunday.
Men’s Cross Country
Last Week: Joe Stewart represented the RedHawks as an individual at the NCAA Cross Country Championship. The junior cleared the 10K course in 31:33.5 to claim 103rd in the race (Recap). This Week: The cross country season has concluded.
Football
Last Week: The RedHawk football team had last week off. This Week: Miami will host Ohio on Tuesday (Nov. 25) at 7 p.m. inside Yager Stadium.
