Red and White Intrasquad Meet a Success

OXFORD, Ohio—The Miami University women’s swimming and diving team opened up their season today with the annual Red and White intrasqaud meet at the Nixon Aquatic Center on Saturday morning.
Three women came away with multiple wins. For the Red Team, Freshman Shay Spelman won the 1000-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Sophomore Stephanie Lemire, another Red Team swimmer, won the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke. Freshman Michele Rielly was the only multiple-race winner for the White Team, with wins in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke.
As for diving, White Team member Sophomore Jenna Karrow won the one-meter dive, while Red Team diver Sophomore Taylor LeCount won the three-meter dive.
The Red Team won the 200-yard medley relay, with the efforts of Senior Katie Bootsma, Lemire, Junior Emma Szczupakiewicz and Sophomore Elise Campbell. Elise Campbell, Junior Natalie Rohr, Freshman Abigail Schirmer and Junior Gabby Veri got the win for the Red Team in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Red Team won the meet by a score of 156-132.
The Miami women open up competition on Friday, Oct. 17 at Purdue.
